What traveler, in front of the Pyramids of Giza, has not photographed himself looking for the optical effect of holding them in his hand? Well, this claim has now gone further thanks to an exhibition by art in the Pyramids, which has shown the most modern side of these constructions with more than 4,500 years of history. In this post we tell you what it consisted of and why it was so well received by travelers.
Forever Is Now
an installation of art installation at the Pyramids
Contemporary art and Ancient Egyptian architecture have literally never been so close physically and conceptually. Thanks to the firm Art d’Egypte and with the support of Unesco, the archaeological complex of the Pyramids of Giza was filled with sculptures and art objects with the ability to surprise and reflect those who contemplate them. The name of the exhibition:
Forever Is Now
(Forever Is Now).
Among his works there have been such amazing creations as
Ouroboros
by Alexander Ponomarev, in which the space of the three pyramids is used to install an eternal hourglass with pyramidal shapes. Surprising is also
Greeting From Giza
by JR, thanks to which the tip of the Pyramid of Chephren seems to be separated from the rest of the whole.
Another artist who has participated was Lorenzo Quinn, with his
Together
in which gigantic hands form a pyramid with their fingers. Moataz Nasr is the Egyptian representative of the exhibition, with a suggestive pyramid made of oars, recalling precisely the symbolism of the funerary solar boats in the religion of Ancient Egypt. And like these examples, many others, until completing a catalog of ten that left no one indifferent.
The Giza complex as a renewed focus of attraction
The exhibition had a limited run of just over two weeks, since it opened on October 21 and was removed on November 7. However, it is the clear demonstration that the archaeological complex of Giza is far from being a static and monotonous place, and knows how to renew its appeal to the millions of visitors who pass through here every year.
In fact, this is not the first time that Art d’Egypte has organized an art installation at the Pyramids. art installation at the Pyramids or in other monuments of Ancient Egypt. In fact, it was the fourth in 2021 and there are sure to be many more in the coming years.
In addition to this, it should be recalled that at the time of writing this post (December 2021) the Grand Egyptian Museum at Giza was finalizing the details for its opening. This museum, one of the largest in the world, houses priceless pieces dating back to Ancient Egypt, all in a ‘luxury’ container: an avant-garde structure designed by the company Heneghan Peng.
These exhibitions of art in the Pyramids are, undoubtedly, additional incentives to visit them, which is a must for any traveler in this country… and for the exclusive tours organized by Egypt, since practically all of them dedicate at least one day to discover this archaeological site declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco.
