Unlike other trips to Egypt and Jordan, this program concentrates the main attractions of both countries in just one week. Therefore, it is a perfect option for those who only have 7 days free and want to make a getaway full of content. On this tour, we take you to those truly essential places and monuments, those that are universally known and we should all visit at least once in our lives. Will you join us on one of the most intense tourist experiences that can be organized in the world?
On this trip through Egypt and Jordan, the roadmap through the first country takes us to the capital and its surroundings, where there is much to see. Specifically, the Giza necropolis with its iconic Pyramids and its Great Sphinx. Very close by, we will also visit the Grand Egyptian Museum of Giza, a spectacular complex recently inaugurated in which thousands of works of art and objects from the Pharaonic civilization are exhibited, including those from the tomb of Tutankhamun.
In Cairo, on the other hand, we will make contact with the era of foundation and splendor of the city, in medieval times, with its iconic neighborhoods and its Coptic and Muslim temples as main hallmarks. In addition, moving through its streets will help us understand the vibrant and frenetic pace of life of one of the largest and most overwhelming capitals in the world.
On this trip through Egypt and Jordan, the second country has a lot to contribute to the route. Of course, the Rose City, which is the name by which Petra, the ancient capital of the Nabataean empire, is known. It is a site protected as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO and is one of the Seven Wonders of the Modern World, two distinctions that the Pyramids of Giza also have, which gives an account of its magnetism and uniqueness.
Another great attraction of the program is the Wadi Rum desert, also a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, thanks to its landscapes of lunar beauty. And to get to one and another destination, we will travel the King’s Highway, that is, the road that Moses took with his followers to also come from Egypt to the Promised Land, a territory that, by the way, he contemplated from the top of Mount Nebo… as we will do on this trip.
In 7 days and 6 nights, this trip through Egypt and Jordan brings together the best of one and another destination. With arrival in Cairo, return from Amman and an intermediate flight between both countries, this is the detailed program, day by day:
Cairo is the city that will welcome you upon arrival, together with the staff of our agency, who will be waiting at the terminal for the meeting and to start the visa procedures. Once this bureaucratic requirement is solved, we will go to our private vehicle with which the driver will take us to the hotel, in the center of the city.
Once at the hotel and after performing the relevant check-in, you will receive an explanatory briefing about this trip through Egypt and Jordan and we will resolve some doubts about the program, in addition to providing other useful information for the week that you will have ahead.
If seeing the Pyramids up close is one of your great incentives to book this trip through Egypt and Jordan, your wait will not be long: on the second day of the circuit we will take you to them, after having breakfast at the hotel and by means of a comfortable journey in a private vehicle.
The necropolis of Giza, where the Pyramids are located, is a few kilometers from Cairo, so we can start the visit from the first hour. We will move through the viewpoints to adequately visualize these funerary monuments ordered to be built four and a half millennia ago by Cheops, Khafre and Menkaure, all of them from the IV dynasty. But we will also approach them, as well as the Great Sphinx and other iconic remains of this great archaeological site.
Very close to the Pyramids is another great symbol for Egyptian tourism: the Grand Egyptian Museum of Giza. This pharaonic complex of about 50 hectares, designed by Heneghan Peng Architects, exhibits and interprets the most important of that civilization, with the best technological means of the 21st century. Of the approximately 20,000 objects exhibited (including works of art and other archaeological pieces), the funerary trousseau of the tomb of Tutankhamun shines with its own light, such as his golden throne or his famous mask. The solar boat of Cheops, exhibited in its entirety here, is also fascinating. But no less important are the parchments that tell everyday stories or the statues of pharaohs and dignitaries as important as Ramses II, Hatshepsut or Alexander the Great.
Such an intense morning will justify a good lunch in a local restaurant, as we will do. In the afternoon, we will return to Cairo and at night, you will rest again in the hotel to replenish the energies spent during the day.
On this trip through Egypt and Jordan we will not only see monuments of the oldest past of its cities: there will also be time to discover other more recent attractions and to feel the rhythm of daily life in the country. Therefore, the third day is dedicated to visiting the Egyptian capital, Cairo.
On the tour you cannot miss the two most historic neighborhoods of the city, such as the Coptic Quarter and Islamic Cairo. In the first, temples such as the Church of San Jorge or the Church of the Cave will allow visitors to discover the surprising and rich Christian heritage of the city, which largely revolves around the journey that the Holy Family undertook here in their Flight to Egypt.
And in the second neighborhood, known as Islamic Cairo, numerous mosques and bazaars stand out, such as the Khan el-Khalili, which will show the traveler the most deeply rooted culture and traditions, some of a sacred nature and others of a more popular nature. Walking through its alleys and stopping at its craft stalls will be like traveling to medieval and primeval Cairo, when this market was one of the largest and most dynamic in the world.
This Islamic Cairo is protected as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO and also includes another fundamental part of the historic center: the Citadel of Saladin. This imposing fortress, located in the Mokattam hills, will in fact be the starting point of our day in the capital, with the essential visit to the Mosque of Mehmet Ali, also called ‘of Alabaster’ for the main material used in its construction, in the 19th century.
At noon or at the desired time of the day, lunch will be taken in a local restaurant, with traditional cuisine. And at night, you will return to rest in the same hotel in Cairo.
The fourth day of this trip through Egypt and Jordan is a necessary day of transition: we will use it to take the flight that will take you from one country to another, from Cairo International Airport to Amman Queen Alia Airport.
After having breakfast at the hotel in Cairo, our driver will pick you up at the agreed time for the transfer to the airport. And upon arrival, other representatives of our agency will pick you up at the same terminal to carry out the border entry procedures.
Once completed, we will take you to the hotel for dinner (if we arrive before the kitchen closing time) and to rest for the next day. In any case, before or after the flight there may be some free time, depending on the scheduled time.
The great Jordanian tourist attractions are in the south of the country. And we will go towards them on this fifth day. But the road to get to them will be an unforgettable experience in itself, since we will discover places full of history, mysticism and beauty.
After breakfast and shortly after starting the route, we will arrive at Madaba, a city famous for its Byzantine churches and, more specifically, for the mosaic map that houses one of them: that of San Jorge. This mosaic map of the 6th century BC is appreciated by Jews, Christians and Muslims, since it is considered the first cartographic representation of the Promised Land for the former, the Holy Land for the latter and Palestine for the latter.
Immediately afterwards, we will go to Mount Nebo, a place mentioned in the Bible because Moses sighted the aforementioned Promised Land from here. Emulating the prophet, we will do the same, sharpening our eyes to try to distinguish the Jordan Valley, the Dead Sea and Jerusalem in the background. In addition to its viewpoint, we will get to know other spaces of interest in the enclosure, such as the memorial church or the commemorative monuments of the biblical episode.
The route continues south along the King’s Highway, the same one that Moses used to come from Egypt. One of the stops will be the castle of Shobak, erected by the crusaders of the Kingdom of Jerusalem in the 12th century, becoming one of the most important and strategic fortresses to defend the eastern flank of that fleeting Christian kingdom. We will see it only externally, but it will help us to understand its monumentality.
Shortly after, we will arrive at Wadi Musa, a small town located next to Petra. Our hotel will be there, where we will have dinner and sleep to be fully rested the next day for the visit to Petra.
The sixth day of this trip through Egypt and Jordan begins like the rest: breakfast at the hotel and meeting with our guide to start the activity. However, there is something special about this day that makes it different: an in-depth visit to Petra, an authentic tourist icon of the country.
Known as the Rose City, recognized as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO and one of the Seven Wonders of the current World, the ancient capital of the Nabataean empire continues to maintain all its charm intact, which is expressed in its constructions excavated in the rock as if by magic.
The Treasury stands out above all, a probable funerary monument of King Aretas III (s.I BC), but there is much more: the Theater, the Street of the Facades, the Columned Street, the Al Deir Monastery… and its rocky formations in the form of hills and gorges, as is the case of the Siq, which leads the visitor to the heart of the enclave.
We will dedicate a full day to the exploration of Petra, helping ourselves with the means available to speed up travel within the enclosure. And once the visit is over, we will return to the hotel for dinner and rest.
This trip through Egypt and Jordan squeezes its program until the last day, as it reserves for this seventh day two other visits of maximum interest: Little Petra and Wadi Rum. We will go to both destinations after having breakfast at the hotel and doing the last check-out.
Little Petra is called that because this enclave resembles the nearby Petra, and shares history with it: it was probably a town that offered logistical service to the capital and is articulated around rocky canyons, in which locals, homes and temples were also excavated. In fact, it was inhabited by Bedouin tribes until relatively recently.
After discovering and walking through Little Petra, we will travel by road and sand tracks to the heart of Wadi Rum: this practically virgin desert was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO thanks to its lunar landscape, dotted with rocky and bare mountains. Known by Bedouin and ancestral tribes, it fascinated T.E Lawrence (Lawrence of Arabia) and we will find numerous references to him. To explore this desert we will get on a 4×4 vehicle and take a route through its most symbolic places.
After having lived the incomparable emotion of the desert, we will return to our vehicle to travel by road to Amman Queen Alia International Airport, where this circuit concludes. Our staff will leave you at the same terminal and will help you with the last procedures you may need. And he will say goodbye with enormous gratitude for having chosen this trip through Egypt and Jordan and for having placed your trust in us.
